After more than two weeks of jaw-dropping athletics, close competitions and meme–making events, the 2024 Paris Olympics are coming to a close.
The Olympics closing ceremony airs in the U.S. on Sunday, Aug. 12, on NBC and streams exclusively on Peacock. Taking place at the Stade de France, the festivities are expected to include a mix of pre-recorded and live performances by Billie Eilish, Red Hot Chili Peppers and H.E.R., while Tom Cruise is reportedly skydiving to the Hollywood sign (in a pre-taped segment) as part of the handoff to Los Angeles for the 2028 games. Over 100 performers, dancers, acrobats and circus artists directed by artistic designer Thomas Jolly (who also oversaw the opening show) are also expected to be part of the closing extravaganza.

Unlike the opening ceremony, the closing festivities — titled “Records” — will take place indoors with an “original soundtrack, new interpretations, musical performances and the participation of world-renowned singers,” according to the Olympics. The show “will take spectators on a journey through time, both past and future.”
The 2024 Olympics brought 329 events across 39 sports to Paris and beyond, including the debut of breaking (or breakdancing) alongside new categories such as a bantamweight division for women’s boxing, kite and dinghy races in sailing, kayak cross in canoe slalom and more. As expected, Lady Gaga and Celine Dion took to the opening ceremony stage, and the event also featured performances by French artists including superstar Aya Nakamura, opera singer Axelle Saint-Cirell, singers Juliette Armanet and Philippe Katerin and heavy metal band Gojira also joined the show.
