Netflix can’t get enough Squid Game: The streamer has renewed its reality show spin-off Squid Game: The Challenge for a second season.
The news comes as the first season’s finale begins streaming, where the winner of the show’s record-setting $4.56 million prize is expected to be revealed.
The Challenge premiered Nov. 22 and has ranked No. 1 on Netflix’s Top 10 English TV list for its first weeks, and was in the Top 10 in 93 countries.
“There was no red light in our decision to greenlight season two of Squid Game: The Challenge, the most ambitious unscripted show we’ve premiered at Netflix,” said Brandon Riegg, Netflix vp of nonfiction series. “We’re so excited to continue the franchise of Squid Game with our team in Korea, and producers at Studio Lambert and The Garden for this epic competition series.”

The new season will presumably be inspired by the games in the second season of the Squid Game drama series, which is expected to air in 2024. Squid Game still holds the record as Netflix’s most popular TV series of all time, with this year’s first season of Wednesday coming in second.
In The Challenge, “456 players compete through a series of games inspired by the original show — plus surprising new additions — and their strategies, alliances, and character will be put to the test while competitors are eliminated around them.”
Netflix is also expanding the world of the show with Squid Game: The Trials, a live fan experience, starting Dec. 6 in Los Angeles where guests can compete in games inspired by the show.
The company announced an open casting call for The Challenge season two at SquidGameCasting.com (but if you get picked, be sure to dress warm).
