Marvel and Disney’s Deadpool & Wolverine is poised to break box office records this weekend, and the raunchy, expletive-filled R-rated superhero mashup received a ringing endorsement from none other than … Taylor Swift!
“Over the past few years I have watched one of my best friends on this planet pour every bit of his heart, soul, sweat, time, energy, jokes, pain, joy, rebellion, darkness, and magic into this film,” Swift said in opening to her post that was shared on Instagram Stories to her 284 million followers. “He’s created the best work of his life, and this film feels like an actual joy portal, a wild escape from reality, and an abs sandwich. I don’t know how he did it.”

Then came the good-natured trolling: “But that’s Hugh for you!” A dig worthy of Wade Wilson, aka Reynolds’ character in the Deadpool franchise. “These other randoms crashed the photo and we were too polite to ask them to leave,” Swift continued in reference to the image that she shared which includes her standing alongside Jackman, Reynolds, Lively and filmmaker Shawn Levy.
She then offered up an endorsement by alerting the world to the fact that Deadpool & Wolverine hits theaters Friday, along with a link to buy tickets for those who “like things that are unspeakably awesome.” (And R-rated!)
Then came a personal reveal: One of music’s most prolific and decorated wordsmiths closed her post by giving a shout-out to “Wade Wilson, aka my godkids’ sperm donor!” It was not previously known that Swift had an official role as the godparent of the four young children of her famous pals. Reynolds and Lively are parents to four children, and there’s been other news on that front just this week.
During the New York premiere of Deadpool & Wolverine earlier this week, Reynolds delivered a heartfelt speech from the stage inside the David H. Koch Theater during which he said that he loved that his entire family was in the building for the big night. Then he name-checked the children, revealing their youngest as Olin, who was born in February 2023, joining older sisters James, Inez and Betty.
Back to Swift’s surprise endorsement, which was shared early Thursday morning. By late afternoon, Lively had reposted it and responded. “Thank you Taylor Swift for honoring my guy(s),” wrote the actress, producer and entrepreneur. “I couldn’t have said it better myself. Which is unsurprising given that I have 14 less Grammys and not a single sold-out stadium world tour.”
On that note, Swift continues her epic Eras Tour this weekend as it rolls through Munich, Germany, before hitting Poland, Austria and London next month. As for Deadpool & Wolverine, the film is expected to open between $160 and $175 million in North America alone, coupled with an expected gross in the range of $180-$190 million internationally, per the latest tracking intel.
Deadpool & Wolverine finds Reynolds back in the title role as the fun-loving, foul-mouthed antihero Deadpool/Wade Wilson while Jackman slips back into his Marvel suit as the brooding Wolverine/Logan. The story centers on Wade Wilson being reluctantly pulled out of retirement to do what any good antihero or superhero does: save the world. Needless to say, challenges stand in his way.
